Of course, this is just the prelude to the real story which aims to reveal that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Coraline must rely on a combination of stubborn determination, bravery, ghost children, and the help of neighbours and a talking black cat to save her real parents and get back home. Coraline 3D shows its dark side as the story expands, with superb performances by the leading and secondary characters.
The 3D effects in the movie are generally recognised as good quality, with a number of scenes working exceptionally well - the spiders web and piano scenes worthy of particular mention.
The 3D version is supplied along with the 2D - and the DVD contains sets of 3D glasses. The effects work well in a dimmed light environment, although as with many 3D DVD versions there is some loss of quality and overall experience compared with the cinema version.

As is the case with many childrens movies, Coraline 3D is based on a popular best selling childrens book. Coraline 3D was the first 3D movie to be shot in high definition, and it's a fairytale with a dark, haunting storyline which follows a young girl on her family move into a new, but strange house. Coraline is the name of the girl in the story, and she's left by her parents to explore the house on her own. The story grows when Coraline finds a secret door which takes her to a different dimension where the families she encounters are kinder and suitably more attentive than her own. Here she discovers a different version of her own life.
